Detained MPs head to CID for questioning

The Speaker of Parliament suspended 25 MPs over the chaos that has marred House proceedings this week

Members of Parliament detained on Wednesday will be questioned today at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (CID) headquarters in Kibuli.

Without divulging details, the International Police, Professional Standards Unit and CID spokesperson, Vincent Ssekate confirmed the development.

"They are expected at 10am for questioning," said Ssekate.

Yesterday, the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga suspended 25 MPs over the chaos that has marred House proceedings this week. She ordered the MPs to exit the chambers immediately.

A scuffle ensued when suspended MPs refused to vacate Parliament and subsequently chairs, microphone stands, seats and others items were broken.

MPs Allan Ssewanyana, Monica Amoding, Sam Lyomoki, Moses Kasibante, Betty Nambooze, Robert Kyagulanyi, Mohammed Nsereko, Odonga Otto, Nandala Mafabi, Mubarak Munyangwa, Joseph Sewungu, Muwanga Kivumbi and Medard Ssegona are among the suspended MPs who were detained.

Security at CID has been heightened as the legislators are being ferried from separate facilities where they were detained.
