With gravity, water will always find the easiest and quickest route to damage the walls. However, there is a solution, and that solution is waterproofing
When constructing or renovating bathrooms, most people focus more on tiling, painting and fi xing the best accessories.
However, Taha Khambatwala, a waterproof expert with Khambati Impex Co Ltd in Kampala, says waterproofi ng is as important as the functions bathrooms serve in a home.
"The bathroom surfaces aren't always suited to damp conditions which can lead to further problems down the line," he says.
Khambatwala adds that while building or renovating bathrooms, much concern should be put on waterproofi ng just as it is with fi xing modern tiles, fi tting and accessories.
"Waterproofing chemicals or elements are very important because if we neglect them, the beauty of the bathroom will only survive for a short period of time and more money will be spent on repairs," Khambatwala affirms.
He adds that there are many kinds of waterproof products on the market but most effective are the Zahabiya water shield coats.
Beware: If a weak point or crack develops in your fl oor or walls, or gaps form in the sealant between the walls, water can easily start to seep through.
