Politicians watch porn - Lokodo

Ethics minister Simon Lokodo has accused some politicians of watching pornography. He was speaking during a stakeholders' meeting in Kampala yesterday.

"When I arrested some people who were having group sex in Bakuli, I was shocked to find fellow politicians participating. They were watching and happily enjoying. Pornography is a moral disease that is finishing our people. We need to stop it if our country is to develop and also have a generation with values," said

Lokodo said that with the help of Uganda Communications Commission and all telecommunication companies in the country, they are going to block all pornographic materials coming in from western countries.

"We are going to get a software that will ensure no one can access porn using any gadget, especially phones," he said.

Dr Annette Kezaabu, the chairperson of the Pornography Control Committee, said the display, sale and circulation of pornographic images on social, print and electronic media is one of the reasons for the escalating cases of drug abuse, incest, rape, defilement and killings of women.

"These people who are killing our girls watch a lot of pornography. Too much exposure to pornographic acts psychologically affects the way in which men treat women. To them, any woman is a sex object. This has to come to an end because porn is a cancer that is finishing the young generation," she said.

Kezaabu said that the committee will acquire top-end gadgets to monitor and or intercept, downloading, watching, sharing and or transmission of electronic pornographic material.

Dr. Steven Langa, the executive director of Family Life Network, said pornography can destroy marriages.

"We have dealt with women and men in serious relationships who cannot perform their marital duties because they have watched a lot of porn and there is nothing that excites them. Some of them, especially men, want their wives to act like the women in the porn movies do and if they do not get what they watch, they get disappointed and start cheating," Langa said.
