AGE LIMIT | KABALE

Police in Kabale on today foiled a planned demonstration against the amendment of Article 102(b) in the Constitution by a section of students of Kabale University and Forum for Democratic Change youth delegates.

The demonstration at Kabale University started in the morning, with students carrying placards with inscriptions protesting the lifting of the age limit.

They marched around the university premises in Kikungiri, Kabale municipality, before matching out of the gate to Kabale town.

Police, led by ASP. Johnson Mpamba, the Rukiga district Field force commander, later intervened, dispersing the students.

Students later joined their fellow FDC youth who were meeting with party presidency aspirant, Moses Byamugisha, at Victoria Guest house.

After a short encounter, they matched out of the guest house heading towards town. They were later intercepted by Police, commanded by Dickens Bindeba, the Kabale District Police Commander.

Bindeba asked Byamugisha and his colleagues not to engage in any acts of violence, since they had not been permitted by Police to demonstrate.

However, some youth started making noise in town, but they were quickly dispersed by the Police.
