Gulu police hunt taxi conductor who knocked down Khadi

Gulu - Police in Gulu district are looking for the conductor of the taxi that knocked down district Khadi, Sheik Musa Khalil in hit and run accident on Saturday and fractured his right leg.


Denis Ouma, a conductor of the taxi, registration number UAY 362N, is said to have picked the taxi from a washing bay in Gulu town, drove it at high speed and knocked Khalil, who was travelling on a motorcycle.

Khalil was rushed to St. Mary's Hospital Lacor, where he is currently admitted.

The incident happened at about 8:00pm on Lagara Road in Gulu Municipality.
 
When New Vision visited him at the hospital, Khalil said Ouma was driving at night at high speed, without a head lamp light on.

He asked Ouma to hand himself over to the Police and apologise
"I know everyone makes mistakes, but he should learn to own his mistakes and ask for forgiveness", Khalil said.

Khalil told New Vision that he is still in a lot of pain.
"The doctor said my broken leg requires surgery, but I need a bone," he added.

Gulu district traffic officer Ponsiano Opwonya after the incident, Ouma drove off and parked the taxi at parking yard opposite Christ church Gulu and took off.

"We impounded the taxi and brought it to Gulu central police station and asked the owner to look for his conductor to come and record his statement with us ",Opwonya said.

Opwonya said Ouma will be charged with reckless driving and over speeding.
