Police in Iganga fired teargas several times to disperse a group of youth activists who were demonstrating against the proposed age limit Bill.

The youth had earlier gathered at their offices as early as 7:00am carrying placards, before moving to the streets along the main Iganga-Jinja highway near Hared feul station.

The activists wanted members of the public to join them in their campaign to protest against the proposed age limit Bill set to be tabled on Thursday.

According to Wilson Buyinza, the youth chairperson Iganga municipal council, they want Parliament to reject the bill.

Buyinza said the Bill will enable President Yoweri Museveni to cling onto power.

"There is no doubt that this Bill is meant to benefit the President to stay in power until he dies," he alleged.

A Policeman was injured during the chaos and was rushed to Iganga Hospital after being hit with a stone.

The Police later arrested four of the youth activists.

Some of those arrested were identified as Meddy Kafuko, one Kivebulya and Wilson Buyinza.

The District Police Commande, Nassibu Nditta, said the youth were dispersed after it was discovered because they were holding an illegal demonstration.

"They never got any permission from Police to hold the rally," he said
