Is it a waste of time and energy trying to get along with your boss? Should you undermine your boss when you feel like it?

Keep in mind, that the company has a large investment in its supervisors and departmental heads.

In a conflict between boss and worker, the boss will almost always win and the loser will gain a reputation for ruthlessness and deceit. Getting along with supervisors is your responsibility.

Take note that their job is to get the company's work done in the most productive and profitable manner.

The challenge facing workers is how to get the most out of their relationships with bosses. Jessica Namulondo, an employee at a law firm, says, "I was very quiet when it came to contributing ideas during Tuesday meetings. I was not sure if my boss would approve any of my ideas until one meeting, there was a brainstorming session and my ideas were taken on. This greatly encouraged me to always share my ideas and consult my boss."

Samson Mubangizi, an employee in the public service says, "Having a healthy relationship with your boss / supervisor yields good results. One should show initiative by solving problems and not creating them. The effort you put in to carry out a piece of work without being told will be highly appreciated."

Nancy Atim, an employee at an NGO, says: "I have worked with so many people when carrying out projects and one of the biggest downfall is people not being "team players."

A project meant to last a few months will take over a year because people on the team are not corporative. Bosses need "team players", not individuals who are selfcentred.''
