Residents of Tororo County have endorsed the amendment of Article 102 of the Constitution to allow the removal age limit, but warned legislators not to pass the land amendment Bill.

The residents through their representative, Christine Adikinyi, the Mukuju sub-county councillor said they were comfortable with the removal of the age limit, but oppose the Government proposal over land.

"My people support the removal of the age limit, but they are ready to die protecting their land, should you pass the land Bill'' Adikiny told the MP's during a fundraising ceremony at Atiri Primary School on Saturday.

The over 15 MP's led by Bukedea Woman MP Anita Among, said they would respect the views of the people and go by their wishes. Among also said the residents of Bukedea and Nakapiripirit have endorsed the removal of the age limit.

The pronouncement comes hardly a day after the LC3 chairpersons of West Budama opposed the removal of the age limit. The Kirewa sub-county and Nagongera town council chairpersons, Joseph Kasolo and Pius Opio, respectively accused their MP Okoth Othieno for fronting the Bill without consulting them.

The fundraising function was meant to raise funds to pay taxes for the school bus, which was being held by Uganda Revenue Authority.

A total of sh32m in cash and pledges was raised. The school also received 150 bags of cement that were offered by Hima and Simba cement factories towards the plastering of the classroom blocks.
