NRM lawmakers have said they cannot be intimidated by the Opposition over their plans to lift the presidential age limit.

The UPDF, (national army) has said it's a neutral force which should not take side in the pro-age limit removal debate.

"As UPDF, we are non-partisan. If the statement was made on the Floor of the House as the army, we would have responded promptly because we have our representative in Parliament. Treat the minister's remarks as a personal statement," Lt. Col, Deo Akiiki the deputy army Spokesperson told New Vision on Friday.

Akiiki was responding to remarks made by junior minister for finance Evelyn Anite at a news conference addressed by a section of NRM MPs on the matter.

Responding to what she termed as intimidation from the anti-age limit MPs, Anite said: "Let them know that we are the party in power and we have the majje (army)."

NRM lawmakers have said they cannot be intimidated by the Opposition over their plans to lift the presidential age limit.

The move by the NRM MPs was widely criticised by Opposition MPs and some section of MPs within the ruling party who described it as unfortunate and stage-managed by a few individuals.

Rwakajara, said: "We have decided to move without the Government because the court observed that the late amendment of electoral laws has a negative effect on the conduct of elections," he said.
