He was once regarded as the next big thing in Ugandan football

Midfielder Gift Ali who joined Police from Proline has paid tribute to former club Proline and its fans.

Ali was expected to make his league debut on Tuesday against Masavu but the newly promoted team failed to produce player licenses for its players which led to cancellation of the match.

He took to social media to the club and its fans for their support during his time at the club.

"I want to thank the club for helping me become a better footballer and person in all aspects of the words during my 7 year stay there. About 7 years ago (2010) Proline Football club, a club that will remain in my heart gave me the amazing opportunity to be nurtured from the Academy but more than anything I feel incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to play for them in front of the amazing fans for all that time" he said.

"Proline is my home" but I believe the time is right to open a new chapter for myself as I move to Police FC. I can only say thank you to the club, especially the director Mr Mujib Kasule and the entire management plus the coaching staff" he added.

"Today I say goodbye to Proline but I take with me many memories, lessons and great moments that will stay with me forever. It has been one of the best times spent at the club" said Ali who was once regarded as the next big thing in Ugandan football during his youth career but saw injuries halt his progress.

At Police he reunites with former teammates Rahmat Ssenfuka and Denis Makoba Bigala.
