The Police preliminary investigations indicated the deceased and his two accomplices who escaped, were found breaking into an old man’s house.

The Police in Kyotera district have launched investigations into an incident where a group of people lynched a suspected thief and later dumped his body near a police post Kakuuto Sub-county.

Investigating officers believe the incident happened at Kasasa village on Wednesday at around 5:00am.

According to Lameck Kigozi, the Southern region Police spokesperson, they have already arrested six suspects.

The Police preliminary investigations indicated the deceased and his two accomplices who escaped, were found breaking into an old man's house.

An alarm was made, attracting several residents who pursued the suspected thieves and caught one of them.

They beat him up using clubs and stones before dragging him to near Kasaka police post where he died eventually. On-duty officers said the mob dispersed shortly.

The body was taken to a mortuary at Kakuuto Health Centre for a autopsy.

Kigozi further added that the suspects will be arraigned in court after conclusive investigations. He warned residents to desist from mob-justice saying it's against the law.

The incident came at the time when crimes especially theft, housebreaking and others are common in the sub-county.

Last week, Muhamood Kalule, a resident of Kakuuto town, said thugs waylaid him on his way home and took his money and bicycle. He attributed it to lack of regular police patrols by police and crime preventers.

In related crimes, a group of machete-wielding men on Tuesday invaded Kabonera A and Kabonera B villages in Kabonera sub-county nearby Masaka hacked two people dead.
