President Yoweri Museveni has said the bush war veterans deserve respect for the contribution they made to the liberation of the country and the tranquility that Uganda is enjoying today.

The President said many of the veterans may not be rich or holding government positions, but the sacrifices they made to recover the country from the unrest it had been plunged into remains their consolation. He said the only reward they need now is respect wherever they are.

This was in a speech read for him by the Minister without Portfolio, Abdul Nadduli, at the burial of Nalongo Dorotia Kalibbala, one of the Luwero war veterans and mother to Presidential Press Unit photographer Jacob Kato at Buggala in Nakaseke district over the weekend.

The President described the late Nalongo Kalibbala as a fearless fighter, adding that she and her late husband Kalibbala made great contribution supplying food to the to the fighters of the liberation struggle that ushered peace in the country.

He said Nalongo undertook a risk by supporting the fighters during the struggle in which her husband and many of her relatives lost their lives. The President added that NRM had lost a great supporter, skillful mobiliser and a leader who has promoted the Movement ideals since 1986.

The state minister for primary education, Rosemary Sseninde, State House's Maj. Gen. Proscovia Nalweyiso and several local leaders from Wakiso and Luwero were among the mourners who attended the burial of the veteran who touched many lives during the struggle.
