USPA members were hailed for fulfilling their religious virtue of praying for the deceased

Members of Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) on Tuesday held the annual memorial service at Christ the King church in Kampala for their fallen colleagues.

The annual service that precedes USPA's road safety campaign started in 2004 after the Lugazi accident in which four of its members perished in a fatal accident in 2001.

Up to 34 members since 1970 have passed away, many of whom have died due to road accidents.

The main celebrant, Fr. Bosco Sembatya thanked USPA members for fulfilling their religious virtue of praying for the deceased annually but urged all believers to always be prepared for death.

He talked of the biblical wise women who kept their candles burning till the end.

Sponsors from City Tyres, Standard Chartered Bank, KCCA FC and UNRA attended the prayers with sports leaders including Watson Edgar from football, Ambrose Tashobya of Basketball and UOC, and John Sewamala from Tennis.

The road safety campaign gets underway Wednesday in Kamwokya where bodaboda riders will be sensitized before climaxing on September 2 at Wobulenzi where zebra crossings will be painted.
