Kisekulo, Nakitende win Kyotera NRM primaries

Aug 24, 2017

Patrick Kintu Kisekulo won with 14653 votes to become the party flag bearer in the upcoming District LC5 elections.

The Kyotera National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries polls concluded with Patrick Kintu Kisekulo and Rachael Nakitende emerging victors.

Patrick Kintu Kisekulo won with 14653 votes to become the party flag bearer in the upcoming District LC5 elections.

His immediate rival Charles Lubega Ziriddamu got 8987 votes and Anthony Mugerwa came in third position with 4794 votes.

Nakitende got 16834 votes to win the party ticket for the District Women MP seat. Cissy Nantongo got 10,803 and Dhalia Naluyange Kibalama with 4,693 votes.

Ziriddamu, the interim chairperson of Kyotera district, contested the results saying the exercise was marred with irregularities.

He claims his polling agents were arrested trying to capture masked men who were found stuffing ballots at different polling stations. Ziriddamu therefore declared to stand independent in the district general elections.

Francis Tumukunde, the NRM electoral commissioner, who conducted the elections, said the process was peaceful and concluded successfully.

However, results from Kabaseke A village in Kasaali Sub-county, were cancelled having contained an exceptionally bigger number of votes than the actual voters on the register.

NRM leaders are in close talks trying to persuade the losers to support their successful colleagues for the party to win the district contest scheduled to take place on 21 September 2017.
