Vision Group's chief chats up 108-year-old twin

It felt more like a lecture that would pit the 108-year-old against a number of present day history students.

For the one hour that Vision Group boss, Robert Kabushenga spent at Aidah Nakato's home in Nsoba on Mawanda Road in the city suburb of Kamwokya, it was all but a trip down memory lane.

It felt more like a lecture that would pit the 108-year-old against a number of present day history students. In the absence of any personal documents to prove this age, her sharp mind and mental consistency is the only evidence to this claim that continues to be contested by many including her family members.

With precise recollections, she divulged details of her life, her family, the Buganda Kingdom and the pre and post-independence struggles that have since become a part of her life story.

She remembers the euphoria that filled her village when Kabaka Daudi Chwa visited, the times when the now defunct train snaked through her village on its way to the mines in Kasese. It's these railway tracks they would follow as they journeyed to the Kampala or the next market place.

She couldn't help but shudder at how life has since robbed her of all her 26 siblings and 15 of her own children. She watched painfully as the cruel arm of death snatched them one at a time.

Born to Paulo Kibuuka Katula, who was a highly regarded cadre of the Kabaka at the time and Erina Nanyonga of Kitemu, Namutamba in Mityana district, she was married off at 18 years.

Her most recent addition to her eventful memory bank is the Twins festival. And for organizing such a memorable event, she as a twin asked God to bless Kabushenga with twins for making them feel special.

"I was very happy. For all the years I have lived, I had not seen an event that brings together twins from all over the country to celebrate." Seeing quadruplets was her other highlight of the day.

As Kabushenga stated, Nakato is one such person that can be turned into a great resource for the country but also an inspiration to many.
