The National Ruby Sevens team has received a sh200m cash injection from Guinness as Uganda Breweries Limited renews its ties with Uganda rugby.

The boost comes at a time when the 2017 National Sevens Rugby Series kicks off on Saturday with Kyandondo hosting the opening leg of the six venue circuit.

National Sevens and  Rhinos Captain Eric Kasiita welcomed the news as timely and a good motivation to the players with the Rugby Africa 7’s Cup coming up on October 6 to 7 in Kampala.

“I believe this news comes at a good time and will serve as a good motivation to the players and will encourage them to work hard .It will also help with the purchase of equipment for the team,” he said.

The 2017 National Rugby 7’s Series comes with a few changes, like the introduction of core teams and invitational teams.

The tournament will have 10 core teams including the Hima Heathens, Betway Kobs, Toyota Buffaloes, Pirates, Shell Rimula Rhinos, Mutoni Warriors, Rams, Sadolin Mongers and Jinja Hippos.

The Kyadondo leg will have the Engsol Stallions and Kyambogo University playing as the invitational teams this weekend.

Kasiita further lauded the National 7’s Rugby Series as good preparation for the national 7’s team ahead of the Rugby Africa 7’s tournament.

“The National Rugby 7’s series comes at a time when most players need much more playing time and conditioning which is a bonus and of course players and teams gel together,” he said.

The matches for this Saturday’s circuit in Kyadondo will kick off from 8:30am.
