A German national has died after he was waylaid by robbers, who stormed his home and shot him.

Police identified the deceased as Remus Manifred, a 71-year-old man.

By press time, details were scanty, but police said the deceased was by the time of his death a resident of Bwoweri in Njeru town. He was identified as a businessman in the area.

According to a statement released by Asan Kasingye, the Police spokesperson, thugs armed with a pistol gained access to his house at 2:00pm on Tuesday and demanded money from him, which he did not have.

The assailants then shot and injured him, after which they robbed him of his phones and escaped to an unknown direction.

Manifred was later rushed to Jinja main hospital, but he died upon arrival at the facility.

"We have visited the scene and opened up investigations into the incident," Kasingye said. "We call upon members of the public with any useful information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects to give in confidence to the nearest police station or call 0711042346, 0718464294, 0712653253 or 0714401476," he said.

New Vision has learnt that Manifred owned a palatial home by the lakeside (Lake Victoria) in Njeru town. In the earlier years, he reportedly regularly commuted from his Njeru home to work in Kampala.

He was married to Rita Remus, a sister to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) MD Dr David Mpango Kakuba.

They had two children together.
