Emong entered Uganda’s history books when he won Uganda’s first ever gold medal in the 1500 T46

Members of the Uganda Sports Press Association have voted David Emong as the Nile Special USPA sports personality of the month of July.

During their monthly meeting at Imperial Royale Hotel, the sports journalists picked Emong ahead of Josephine Joyce Lalam who threw 51.89 in the Javelin to win Uganda her first made at the 6th Commonealth Youth Games in Bahamas.

Emong entered Uganda's history books when he won Uganda's first ever gold medal in the 1500 T46 at the World Para Athletics Championships in London last month.

Trailing for most of the race, Emong engaged gear in the last 100 metres to overtake defending champion Algeria's Samir Nouioua and European silver medallist Stoyanov Hristiyan of Bulgaria, setting a new personal best of 3:58.36.

For scoring four goals in the CHAN qualifier against South Sudan, Cranes striker Paul Mucureezi was the other contestant for the USPA vote while Joan Mukova who shined during the Woodball International Championship was the other candidate.

The scribes commended Uganda's mountain running team that won three of the four individual gold medals IN Bulgaria in the same month, the Uganda Cranes and the Rugby Cranes.
