The UCU Canons flashed their depth and maturation as they held off Our Saviour 69-60 Sunday in the National Basketball League (NBL) with an eight-man rotation devoid of key players Brian Namake and Luol Titus.

Joas Maheta and Jonathan Egau scored 15 and 13 points respectively while Fadhil Chuma grabbed 10 points and 11 rebounds respectively for UCU, who trailed 44-41 at the end of the third quarter but unsurprisingly found a way down the stretch.

Our Saviour had a full house and should have made the undermanned Canons pay but this is fast becoming a what-might-have-been season for Belton Kirabo's team. They kind of have the pieces but not the results to show for it.

Peter Elungat and Stephen Mwesigye led the way for Our Saviour with 15 and 14 points respectively.

There was more joy for UCU in the women's NBL, where the Lady Canons rallied from a 21-point third-quarter deficit to stun the JKL Dolphins 66-62. Judith Nansobya sunk a co game-high 17 points, shooting 4-of-10 from downtown.

Angella Lokwomeri also scored 17 and added five assists as the reigning two-time champions showed the pretenders to their throne what title-winning class is made of.

"We'll be fine," protested JKL star guard Flavia Oketcho. "We have time to sort things out."

Hope Akello, Jamila Nansikombi and Stella Oyella scored 13, 12 and 11 points respectively for the Dolphins, who led 34-19 at halftime.
