Jul 30, 2017

The double win against Pioneer kept them in the hunt for a third consecutive title

Defending champions Jinja SS are on the verge of making it to the semi-finals despite finding themselves playing catch up in the ongoing Mehta T20 tournament.

They are making the best out of the backlog of fixtures as the contest reaches the final bend with one double fixture off their plate before the knockout stage.

The double win against Pioneer on Saturday at Lugogo Oval ensured they rediscovered their mojo and now look headed to the semi-finals in pursuit of a third consecutive title.

In a highly riveting game one, 2016 USPA female cricketer of the year Stephanie Nampiima struck 17 not out off 12 balls as Habib Mugalula's side won by 1 run after the overs were reduced following a rain interruption.

Pioneer came up short chasing the game despite a man of the match performance from Leona Babirye who scored 23 off 36 balls.

In game two, Jinja SS' opening bowler Sarah Walaza claimed 2 wickets in the first innings for her side who chose to field having won the toss before Stephanie Nampiima stepped up to score an important 30 off 27 balls to hand Jinja SS the double victory.

At Entebbe, Tornado Bee was defeated by KICC courtesy of Franklyn Najjumba's 43 from 43 balls in game one.

Saidat Kemigisha struck the only half-ton of the day (51 from 47 balls), winning man of the match despite her side failing to chase KICC's score.

Olila are currently leading the log with 169 points and have already booked a place in the semi-finals.

Jinja SS' final double fixture against Olila is expected to have a bearing on the top four positions but it's more likely Olila, Jinja SS, Pioneer and Tornado Bee who will go through.
