TOR - Firm (APW) to support establishment of a Community event Based Disease Surveillance System focusing on AFP surveillance in refugee affected Districts within the IDSR system

Background

Uganda last had WPV outbreaks in 2009 and 2010 after being declared free of circulating wild polio virus (WPV) by the Africa Regional Certifi cation Commission (ARCC) in October 2006.

Despite the improved performance in RI, Uganda still remains at risk due to the ongoing outbreaks in the HOA, Lake Chad region and the infl ux of refugees from the neighbouring countries.

There is high crossborder movements of populations due to insecurity in neighbouring countries or trade that could re-establish circulation of wild polio virus in Uganda.

The gold standard to be able to detect and timely respond to any possible importation is a sensitive disease surveillance system at all levels.
