Many civil servants had become political activists with the ambition of disrupting government programmes

Civil servants in Soroti Municipality have been tasked be conversant with the civil service code of conduct in order not to go contrary to it.

The reminder was made on Thursday by Emmanuel Okanya, the deputy town clerk while opening a two-day induction training for newly recruited staff held at Plain Home Hotel.

The training centres on financial accountability, customer care, channels of communication, result oriented management and disciplinary procedures in public service.

It is being organized by Soroti Municipality under the Capacity Building Grant.

According to Okanya, many civil servants had become political activists with the ambition of disrupting government programmes and warned them to stop it or face the consequences.

"The staff must comply with the code of conduct including confidentiality and should act in accordance with ethics," Okanya added.

He said that employees owe the general duty of confidentiality to their employer under the civil service law.
