Many district employees have lost their properties to unidentified people

Wakiso district Chief Administrative Officer, Luke Lokuda, has given a two-week ultimatum to all the kiosk operators to vacate the district premises.

In an interview with New Vision in his office on Friday, he said that the action is intended to decongest the district and have order.

"I'm clearing the district because I want to plant trees and make the place green and I cannot do it when people come and sit on the grass doing a lot of nothing and they are housed by the many kiosks at the district," said Lokuda.

Lokuda added that even wrong elements do enter the district headquarters simply because there is no control and they steal people's belongings mainly from their cars.

He further pointed out that after sending the kiosks out of the district premises he is going to put gates around the premises which will be manned by Police and one will be needed to present identification before entering the premises.

Lokuda added that he is not going to be intimidated as some people he declined to mention have started threatening him to withdraw the idea saying that he is new to the district.

He however attacked the councillor from Bussi Island, Hood Golooba, who stormed the CAO'S office on Friday telling him not to evict the kiosk operators from the premises arguing that the issue is supposed to be handled by the district council.

Golooba owns a kiosk at the district with a permanent structure he put on the district land and Lokuda said the councillor cannot give him instructions because he is not a contractor and he is fully in charge of the district premises and the wellbeing of the workers.

Lokuda said that the traders had wanted to be given two more months but this is not going to be possible because he had wanted them to vacate the premises some time back.

Many district employees have lost their properties to unidentified people mainly laptops and cash after their vehicles have been broken into and Police once arrested a man who was driving away in a car belonging to the CAO's secretary.
