Amolatar students cleared for gov't scholarships

Six students from Amolatar District have been cleared by the District Executive Committee for government scholarships in different universities in Uganda under the District quota system.  

The six students were presented on Thursday to the committee by the Acting District Education Officer Nelson Ecam. 

They include Adongo Gloria from Agikdak Sub County admitted to Kyambogo University, Kula Jasper from Arwotcek Sub County admitted to Muni University, Obura Emmanuel from Awelo Sub County going to Kyambogo University and Okwir Richard to Makerere University. 

Others include Otim Boniface from Amolatar Town Council admitted to Makerere University Business School and Timaku Gloria from Amolatar Town Council admitted to Makerere University. 

In his brief remarks, the district chairman Simon Peter Ongom said there was no ground for objection to any of the students because their parents are known to be from Amolatar and the students studied and sat their A'Level examinations in the district.  

The district secretary for education and health, Akome Dorcus urged the students to stay away from bad company and premarital sexual relationships which can lead to diseases like HIV/AIDS that could cut short their aspirations and dash the hopes of their families for a better future. 

The secretary for works and technical services, James Auna urged the students to always remember that they are very lucky to be selected under the district quota system and they carry the hopes and aspirations of thousands of other children from the district who have not had the opportunity to join University.  

The names of the students will now be submitted to the Ministry of Education for onward transmission to the different Universities where they have been admitted.
