Two killed in road accident

Two people have been confirmed dead after a motorcycle on which they were travelling lost control and rammed into a stationary lorry.

The accident that involved the motorcycle rider and his passenger occurred on Sunday night at Rwomubazi village in Buhimba Sub County along the Hoima-Fort Portal road.

The dead have been identified as Ronald Mutebi, 28, a resident of Kitoole village in Buhimba Sub County and Peter Bigirwa, 56, a resident of Musaijamukuru in Buhimba Sub-County.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson told New Vision on Monday that the duo were descending Rwomubazi slope heading to Hoima town when the motorcycle lost control and rammed into a parked lorry registration number UAT 061J loaded with sugarcane.

The truck was transporting the sugarcane from Masindi to Hoima sugar factory in Kiswaza village in Kiziranfumbi Sub County, Hoima district.

Hakiza added that the two sustained deep cuts and were rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital where they were pronounced dead on Monday morning.

He has since cautioned motorists and drivers against reckless driving or riding.
