The Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has postponed a clan match to allow kingdom officials attend and pay last respects to fallen former Democratic Party (DP) and Kampala mayor John Ssebaana Kizito.

The match that had been slated for this Saturday between the Mbogo and Ngeye clans has been moved a day ahead, to Sunday.

According to a statement released by the office of the kingdom Prime minister, all the Buganda Kingdom flags are flying at half-mast.

It was also revealed that the kingdom lukiiko (legistlative assembly) will have a special sitting for Ssebaana on July 17.

The kingdom says the fallen veteran politician, who has served in all the post-independence regimes, will be remembered for his honesty and hard work.

He died Monday at Nakasero Hospital after battling stroke. He will be buried at his ancestral home in Luwero on Saturday.

Ssebaana has been one of the pillars of DP, Uganda's oldest political party and contested in the 2006 presidential elections as the party's flagbearer.

He established several businesses including Statewide Insurance Company (SWICO), Uganda's first private insurance company. He was, until the time of his death, serving as the firm's chairman of the board.
