Uganda's best bet for silverware at the IAAF World U18 Championships lies with middle and long distance runners, according to head coach Moses Asonya.
The coach, who was speaking shortly after announcing a 12-member team to represent Uganda at the track and field event in Nairobi, said his low optimism about sprinters was not due to inadequate preparation.
"All our athletes are well drilled and the long distance runners are still camped in Kapchorwa but we have not been that effective in sprints.
"If we are to get a medal by a sprinter then the most likely candidate is 400m runner Eric Laying who has run a 47. I won't be surprised if he runs a 46, he is well built and well over 6 feet tall," said the coach who is a former national sprinter.
