Mehta T20 Tournament

There is an apparent parity among participating teams in the ongoing Mehta T20 Cup which returned after a one year hiatus.

A host of mixed results have symbolized the tourney which runs concurrently with the national league but then what brings about this rather ‘deceptive' equality in performance?

A number of players have crossed camp which has visibly brought about a counterweight among the competing teams.

For example, giants Tornado Bee lost some of their key figures; Gertrude Chandiru and Rachael Ntono to Soroti based side Olila. The two have clearly come with experience, something that lacked at the Ivan Kakande coached team.

Similarly the duo of Consy Aweko and Gloria Adubu who now ply their trade with Janet Mbabazi and co. have further lifted Wanderers to which celebrated Jinja SS coach Habibu Mugalula acknowledged.

"They have developed a hard to beat setting with more depth in the team" Mugalula said after a double header between Jinja SS and Wanderers some two weeks ago.

A prolonged period without serious training partly left some giants rusty giving an opportunity to lesser teams to catch up with them in terms of performance.

A case in point here is Olila who played some good cricket during the Girls' Cricket Week and when they faced Pioneer who had taken a relatively a long time off the crease on Saturday, Pioneer could not steamroll the former and in the end each team claimed a win.

Flavia Wanyana marked her return for Pioneer in style having been away in Nigeria for studies, putting up a man of the match performance with the ball (3/19 in 4 overs) as Pioneer beat Olila by 16 runs in game one.

In game two Rachal Ntono stepped up with bat and ball (2/7 in 4 overs and 37 not out off 39 balls) as Olila won by 9 wickets.

In the Women's National League Tornado got a walk over against Nile.

Results

Olila 78/8 Pioneer 94/4 (Pioneer win by 16 runs)

Olila 96/1 Pioneer 93/5 (Olila win by 9 wickets)
