KCCA's Mutebi hopeful team will make quarters

Despite failing to pick a point from any of their two away games in the CAF Confederations Cup group stage, KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi is still hopeful of a quarter final outing.

In the aftermath of their 2-1 loss away to Nigeria's Rivers United Tuesday, Mutebi was all praises for his team that he believes is one of the emerging forces on the continent.

Talking to the Nigerain press after, Mutebi  said his team still have belief that they can still make it to the quarter finals  if they avoid conceding easily like they did against the Nigerians.

"We did not come here [Nigeria] to pack the bus because as you saw it was end-to-end stuff but the most effective team won because they took their chances.

"We are disappointed but we lost in a manner that is not discouraging," said Mutebi.

"We have been seeded with very good teams including Rivers just like us and unlike the other two that already have history, we all have one goal of qualifying for the quarter finals.

"We panicked because of the early goals we conceded but that did not faze us because we later stabilized and continued playing our way. I'm satisfied with it, but kudos to Rivers they played very well and were more effective.

"But we still have the belief because we still score goals away but have to be careful not to concede in the remaining games," said the KCCA tactician.

Just like the coach, team captain Denis Okot wants his teammates to continue believing because they are a promising side.

"We came to pick a result but things did not work out but that is not the end. As we have two games to go we shall still play them with one aim of qualifying because we remain ambitious, and shall continue playing our way because the group is still open and we remain confident of ourselves," said the skipper.

KCCA next continental fixture is a home game against FUS Rabat at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Kampala on July 2.

Currently all Group A teams have 6 points each, with only a two-goal difference.
