Two arrested in Rubanda over murder

Maate said they arrested Arnold Kagabiraho 22, a step son to the deceased.

Police in Rubanda District have arrested two people in connection with the murder of 75-year-old Maritia Kamuntu, a resident of Kagunga Village Ikumba Sub-county, Rubanda district. The two were arrested on Saturday afternoon.
 
According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Spokesperson, Kamuntu was murdered on June 13. The killers broke into Kamuntu's house and allegedly hit her head with a blunt object.
 
Maate said they arrested Arnold Kagabiraho 22, a step son to the deceased.
 
He noted that the axe that was allegedly used in murder was reportedly seen being cleaned by Kagabiraho's mother Tumwebaze Patience who was also arrested. Both suspects are residents of Ntaraga village in Rubanda district.
 
He said Police has also established that they were involved in land wrangle with the deceased where the suspects wanted to forcefully take her land. "We arrested them and are in our cells as their files are being prepared for the trial. They are detained at Rubanda Police Station," Maate said.
