Woman beats niece to death over sh5,000

Grief and anger gripped residents of Luweero town on Monday morning after a 27-year-old woman beat her sister's 9-year-old daughter to death after accusing the minor of stealing sh5,000.

Eva Kabaale, a resident of Kasoma Zone in Luweero, allegedly beat her niece with an electric wire until she collapsed dead.

The Luweero Police Station OC, Rebecca Ayeta today morning identified the victim as Lamzia Namakula also a resident of Kasoma Zone.

Kabaale is said to have fled the town and was still on the run by press time.

Neighbours said they heard the girl crying for help with the assailant repeatedly beating her with an electric conducting wire that inflicted bruises all over the girl's body.

Namakula's bruised body was this morning taken to Kasana Health Center 4 mortuary in Luweero town for a post-mortem.

Ayeta cautioned parents to control their tempers whenever punishing their children.

The Kasoma Zone LC1 chairman, Abdul Tamuzadde, who recorded a statement at Luweero Police Station on Monday morning, blamed Kabaale's neighbours for doing nothing when they saw the girl being brutally punished.
