Kaweesi family demands for speedy trial

“We are getting impatient, we want the case to be concluded, the culprits should be punished for killing our son”

Relatives of former Assistant Inspector of Police (AIGP) Andrew Felix Kaweesi who was brutally murdered earlier this year have called for a speedy trial of the suspects.

The call was made by Josephine Nasaazi a sister to the deceased during the special prayer session held at Kaweesi's home in Kyazanga, Lwengo district on Saturday.

"We hear about 50 suspects were arrested in connection with the murder of Kaweesi. We demand for their speed trial; we want the truth to come out," she said amidst tears.

However the deceased's widow Anette Kaweesi and their children did not attend the event.

Lwengo district leaders, area Parliamentarians, Police and several other close friends of the deceased did not attend either.

Earlier, the community led by the Kyazanga LC3 chairman, Musa Bahati engaged on a community led an exercise to clean Kyazanga town and rehabilitate a 3km access road from Kyazanga to the home of the deceased.

Bahati said the relatives of the deceased and the community of Kyazanga is concern over the delayed justice.

"We are getting impatient, we want the case to be concluded, the culprits should be punished for killing our son," he said.

He said the family members of the deceased and the community leaders and residents in Kyazanga are interested in meeting President Yoweri Museveni on development projects.

He said that Kaweesi was behind several developments and income generating schemes for the communities in Lwengo adding that many of the projects have stalled.

"Kaweesi was a pillar in our area, he contributed and supported schools, churches, rural road constructions, electricity and groups and sustaining the projects is difficult," he said.

Bahati said Kaweesi was also significantly promoting reconciliation among the locals and leaders in Lwengo district and Masaka region.

The former LC3 chairman for Kyazanga Sub County in Lwengo district, Vincent Kaitana said the community and family will hold special prayers and community work on an annual basis in memory of the deceased.

He said Kaweesi was being groomed as an area MP and added that he was ministerial material with the capacity to elevate Lwengo.

"We needed a minister hailing from Lwengo" Kaitana said. 

Former MP for Bukoto Mid-West in Lwengo district, Kezimbira Miyingo was the last person from Lwengo district to be appointed to a ministerial post.
