Engineer fined for walking on city grass

KAMPALA - A civil engineer has been sentenced to a sh40, 000 fine by the Kampala City Hall Court after he pleaded guilty to stepping in an area covered with city green grass commonly known as the Green Belt.

Swazi Mukuye, a resident of Gayaza was arrested Tuesday from Jinja road in Kampala by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) enforcement officers while walking on the green grass.

On Wednesday, he was arraigned before the court's Grade One Magistrate, Moses Nabende where he pleaded guilty to the offence.

Nabende then ordered him to pay a court fine of sh40,000  and in case he defaults, he would serve a 20-day imprisonment in Luzira Prison.

While fining him, Nabende noted that the Green Belt on which he stepped is maintained by tax payers' money.​
