When the National Chess League commences a week and four days from now, City Chess Club will be an obsolete club.

This follows the club's patron, Albert Otete's decision to dissolve the club after his dissatisfaction with the way the current Federation Body operates.

"We were all surprised by his decision but what I can say is that the Patron felt it was wise to pull out of the whole current mess in the Uganda chess Federation. And it's not clear if he will come back," Said an anonymous source.

Prior to its disband, the 2016 league finalists, City Chess Club had already lost two commendable players ahead of the new season.

International Master (IM) Elijah Emojong and Woman Fide Master (WFM) Christine Namaganda have since moved on to greener pastures joining  Equity Bank chess club in Kenya and Uganda's record winners Dmark respectively.

Otete's former club finished in third place behind Dmark and league champions, Kireka chess club.
