Nkunyingi Muwada wants the party to take the flag away from Apollo Kantinti

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) secretary general Nathan Nandala Mafabi clashed with Kyadondo East by-election candidate Nkunyingi Muwada and his supporters who accused him of being a hypocrite.

Muwada lost to Apollo Kantinti in the party primaries ahead of the 2016 general elections in a race Muwada said had been rigged to favour his rival. He decided to contest as an independent though defiantly using FDC symbols and colours but eventually lost.

Muwada wanted Mafabi and party president Gen. Mugisha Muntu to take the party flag away from Kantinti for the by-election claiming that his rival failed to safeguard it, which the party leaders declined on grounds that the party constitution does not allow such a thing.

After being nominated still as an independent at Kasangati Ssaza grounds, Muwada encountered Mafabi who had accompanied Kantinti as the official party flag bearer. He was involved in a heated verbal exchange with Mafabi who had been surrounded by Muwada's angry supporters.

Police led by Kasangasti OC Allan Ndawula, intervened and whisked Mafabi away while Muwada continued to accuse the MP of being against the party's victory in Kyadondo East saying Kantinti was the weakest candidate in the race.

Mafabi dismissed any such allegations and asked Muwada to mind his campaigns but also be careful with his behaviour as an aspiring leader as a professional lawyer.

Only NRM candidate Sitenda Sebalu was nominated on the first day (Tuesday) and all other candidates were nominated on Wednesday the final day.

Among them, was musician Bobi Wine who was driven by his wife Barbra Kyagulanyi, in a procession from their home in Magere, to become the second candidate to be nominated.

Kyagulanyi vowed to enhance the fight against tribal and political divisionism amongst residents of Nangabo in Kyadondo East so that people can unite and have good leadership for a common cause of fighting poverty and poor education among other problems.

"This is not a political game, this is a leadership game, and this is a war between the people of Kyadondo and ignorance poverty and disease. This is not a contest of personalities, today is the first step of getting all of us together to address our issues" said Kyagulanyi.

At around 1pm, Dr. Sowedi Kayongo Male who is also an independent candidate was nominated.

Kayongo who is a medical practitioner said that he is much concerned with the way Parliament has failed to consider a special treatment and allocation of funds for the health sector.

Kantinti who was also nominated, promised to mobilize all the disgruntled voters of the party to reconcile and unite against the NRM.
