Express fans turn on Nakiwala

May 31, 2017

The fans blamed her for buying average players, not paying their salaries and also giving less time to the club due to her ministerial duties

Express fans didn't take their side's elimination from the Uganda Cup lightly after some sections of the club's fans confronted the club chairman also the State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, blaming her for not running the club in a proper manner.

The Red Eagles settled for a goalless draw to be ejected by league champions KCCA 3-2 on aggregate in the semi-final of the return leg at Wankulukuku Stadium.

Nakiwala who remained silent and not happy with decision of the fans was  amidst tight security.

The fans blamed Nakiwala for buying average players, not paying their salaries and also giving less time to the club due to her ministerial duties.

The fans outcome came after the players threatened not to honour Tuesday's return leg. The players were protesting after going some months without pay.

Yayo Lutimba who has been one of Express' key players refused to be part of the game.

Shortly after being convinced by some officials of the club, the players agreed to play the match that was initially supposed to start at 4pm but ended up getting underway 30 minutes later.

This is not the first time Express players have threatened not to play after delay in payment of their salaries.

Since the appointment of Nakiwala as the new club chairman, many fans expected the club to be revamped but that has not been the case so far.

The Red Eagles who finished the league sixth last season have not won any silverware since 2012 when they won the league under coach Sam Ssimbwa.
