Luzinda condemned vices like corruption, violence, dishonesty, tribalism and disrespect for human life, which he said severely tinted the image of the country.

The retired Anglican Bishop of Mukono, the Rt Rev Elijah Paul Luzinda has asked Christians to emulate the religious devotion and moral disposition of Musa Mukasa. Musa Mukasa was the Protestant proto-martyr. He was speared to death by Kabaka Mwanga of Buganda at Mulungu Landing site, Munyonyo on May 25, 1885.

Luzinda condemned vices like corruption, violence, dishonesty, tribalism and disrespect for human life, which he said severely tinted the image of the country.

Luzinda made the remarks during the celebrations of Musa Mukasa Day at Mulungu Landing Site, Munyonyo on Sunday.

The celebrations organized by Mengo Archdeaconry attracted hundreds of Christians from various parts of the country.

The Archdeacon of Mengo, Venerable John Gitta lamented the desecration of the shrine by some immoral young people. He said that the shrine continued to be misused by drunkards, prostitutes and drug-addicts, irrespective of the presence of the Police.

The head of the laity of the Archdeaconry, Margaret Magumba, asked the Mengo establishment to give them a land title for the shrine.

“Over the years we have been trying to get a land title for this place so that we can develop it to international standards. Our efforts to get the title from Mengo have nonetheless not yielded results. The Church of Uganda has a long standing solid relationship with the kingdom of Buganda.  It is therefore our prayer that we be availed with the land-title, as soon as possible,” Magumba requested.

The Buganda Minister of youth and sports, Henry Moses Ssekabembe promised to engage the authorities at Mengo, to ensure that the Church gets the title.
