Pupils' registration for National IDs underway in Lira

Headmasters said the government has given little time for the exercise that will take two weeks

The registration of pupils for the National IDs in Lira began with many complaints from head teachers about the limited duration given for the exercise.

The registration that should capture the details of the parent and the pupils aged between  five and fifteen years, is meant to last for only two days beginning on Monday, the same day that pupils report for the second term.

Many schools have reported low turn ups on the first day implying that on Monday not many pupils registered.

The head masters who spoke off the record said government has given little time for the exercise that would ideally two weeks since many pupils have not reported.

Thomas Otema, the head teacher of VH Primary School, said the forms are complicated to fill and for that reason, parents have been called to school to help fill the forms.

John Ogwang Gwabelle, the outreach principle Loro Core Primary Teachers College also the coordinator in the entire district, urged parents to engage in the exercise since it is to the benefit of their children. He further stated that parents should take it serious.

However another hindrance to the registration process has been parents who themselves haven't registered for the National IDs.
