Hoima diocese pilgrims approach Kampala

A total of 511 foot pilgrims from Hoima district, who have so far travelled an over 200km distance, spent a night in Busunju, and are now preparing to embark on the last leg of the trip.

Over 1,600 pilgrims who have been trekking for five days from Hoima diocese to Namugongo are now approaching Kampala.

A total of 511 foot pilgrims from Hoima district, who have so far travelled an over 200km distance, spent a night in Busunju, and are now preparing to embark on the last leg of the trip. The distance between Kampala and Busunju is about 50km.

A further 517 foot pilgrims from Kibaale vicariate spent a night in Mityana while a total of 650 from Masindi vicariate are currently approaching Matugga, a distance of over 15km away from Kampala. The distance between to two districts - Kibaale and Masindi - and Kampala is over 200km.  



 
Hoima diocese will animate Christians during martyrs' day at Namugongo on Saturday.

A number of local and international pilgrims have already arrived at Namugongo martyrs' shrines ahead of the annual June 3 celebrations in honour of the lives of over 45 Catholic and Anglican martyrs who were killed for their faith by the Buganda king in the 1880s.

According to Rev. Father James Tibezinda, who is coordinating the foot pilgrims from Hoima diocese, the (pilgrims) will arrive in Kampala in a few hours' time.

They will be received by the Hoima diocese external residents association, which brings together Catholics from Hoima in Kampala before heading to Namugongo to put final touches to preparations to animate Christians on the historic occasion.
