Four killed in Kyenjojo accident

Four people where on Saturday killed in an accident involving a Fuso lorry and a taxi in Mukonomura trading center Kyenjojo district.

The accident occurred at Mukonomura in Butunduzi town council along the Fort Portal-Kampala high way where a speeding taxi rammed into four men who were reportedly repairing a Fuso lorry parked by the road side.

According to eye witnesses all the dead were mechanics who were fixing a mechanical problem they were smashed beyond recognition and by press time the bodies of the deceased were at Kyenjojo hospital.

"The truck was parked by the road and loaded with food and all of the sudden a taxi coming from the Fort Portal direction rammed into the men killing all of them," said Abdul Kiiza a trader in Mukonomura who witnessed the accident.

"The guys were fixing a tyre of the lorry and the taxi squeezed them on the lorry board injuring them severally leading to their death," added Kiiza.

The occupants of the lorry were heading to Mugasani market in Kakabara Kyegegwa district to sell food merchandise.

The Kyenjojo district police commander Martin Mbabazi confirmed the accident which occurred on Saturday afternoon.

Mbabazi blamed the accident on the over speeding taxi driver who rammed into the mechanics who were repairing the lorry.

"According to our preliminary investigations the accident was coursed by the speeding taxi driver who has not yet been identified but I would like to caution all taxi drivers to observe road safety when driving along the road," said Mbabazi.

He said that the yet to be claimed bodies are currently at Kyejojo hospital and the taxi driver has not yet been arrested since he is still on the run.
