Uganda’s national basketball men’s team, Silverbacks will be making their debut at the AfroBasket in August in Angola

Uganda's participation in the FIBA AfroBasket championships and the FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers are likely to be among the key issues at the FUBA assembly on Saturday at Lugogo.

Uganda's national basketball men's team, Silverbacks will be making their debut at the AfroBasket in August in Angola following their impressive performance at the Zone 5 championships in Cairo Egypt in March.

Later in 2018, the same team will be taking part in the qualifiers ahead of the FIBA World Cup slated for 2019 in China.

However, the proposed budget of sh500m for the financial year 2017/2018 that is to be tabled, is only for local activities.

According to FUBA's administration vice president Nasser Sserunjoji, Saturday's meeting is also intended to lay out strategies on how to raise funds for the national team.

"We (FUBA) have already started our year with success at the Zone 5 Championships. We still have a busy year ahead of us and it's during the AGM that we intend to plan for the heavy task we have ahead of us," Sserunjoji said.

Activities on the FUBA calendar started early in the year with the national teams taking part in the Zone V championships in Cairo, Egypt, and the the Friday Night Lights basketball that ended in March.

FUBA will also have to send a team to represent the country at their Inaugural U-18, 3 on 3 Basketball World Cup championships in China.
