Parents urged to inculcate tree planting culture in children

The country is grappling with unfavourable climatic conditions

Parents in Katakwi district have been implored to indoctrinate the culture of environmental conservation in their children.

The advice comes at such a time when the country is grappling with unfavourable climatic conditions, something that leaders attribute to a poor culture of planting trees.

Ambrose Mwesigye, the Katakwi Resident District Commissioner said that environmental degradation will be countered if parents motivate their children to plant and sustain at least 15 trees in a year.

He made the remarks while distributing over 40,000 seedlings of different tree species to children and adults of Katakwi Sub County given by the Ministry of Water and Environment.

Mwesigye implored parents to educate their children about the advantages of planting trees to ensure sustainability.

George Osege, the Katakwi district agricultural officer, castigated parents' attitude of paying less attention to tree planting; something he blamed on low participation of children in environmental conservation.
