Police in Masaka have arrested three suspects in connection with a Friday incident in which leaflets were dropped inside the residence of the Vice President Edward Ssekandi.

The same leaflets were also dropped in several other parts of Masaka.

Masaka District Police Commander, John Chrysostom Mwaule, told New Vision that they had arrested several suspects in connection with the incident and called upon the residents to remain calm.

"We have arrested a number of suspects in connection with this incident and we have also met as the district security committee and we are intensifying our patrols in the district." Mwaule said.

It remains unclear how the group accessed the Vice President's home which is guarded by the Special Forces Command (SFC) and dropped the leaflets which were written both in Luganda and English.

A relative who lives at the home told New Vision that they awoke to find the leaflets littered in the compound while some had been dropped at the gate. They were handed over to officers from Masaka Police Station.

It is also not the first time that leaflets are being dropped in the area. Last month, a group dropped a number of leaflets in Bukomansimbi and Lwengo districts, warning the residents of an imminent attack.

Three days after the leaflets were dropped, they attacked the area, hacking several people and also robbing them.

The same group extended their reign of terror throwing several leaflets in Kampala especially in the areas of Najeera, Nansana and Kiwatule.

In Najjera they attacked several residences prompting the Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, Frank Mwesigwa, to order all the District Police Commanders and their operations team on intensify their surveillance and patrol operations.

Addressing residents in Najjera, Mwesigwa cautioned the residents and urged them to ensure that they got to know who their neighbours were and also report all incidents to police.

He also urged them to ensure that they had the mobile telephone numbers of the nearest officer in charge of the station in their areas for emergencies.

Last week Police paraded a number of suspects who had been arrested in connection with the incident including the suspected ringleaders and who they said were financers before the press.
