Nyanzi back in court for bail application hearing

She seeks revision of Magistrate James Ereemye's orders of remanding her without first hearing her bail application.
KAMPALA - Makerere University research lecturer Dr. Stella Nyanzi is expected at the High Court today for hearing of her bail application.
This is after Nyanzi through her lawyers filed an application before the High Court seeking revision of Magistrate James Ereemye's orders of remanding her without first hearing her bail application.
This month on April 10, Magistrate Eremye remanded Nyanzi to Luzira women's prison and promised to hear her application for bail after determining the Directorate of Public Prosecution's request to have her mental status ascertained, which has not been done up to now.
The lawyers contend that this is an abuse of the court process and a violation of Nyanzi's rights to a speedy and fair trial and the presumption of innocence guaranteed by the constitution hence application to the High Court.
Nyanzi was charged under the Computer Misuse Act when she allegedly posted on her Facebook page literature demeaning the person of the president.
