Nominations for Kagoma County candidates kick off

Lorries and trucks blaring loud local music with others full of standing passengers were seen moving in a convoy

There was excitement as nominations of candidates for the Kagoma County Parliamentary by election kicked off on Tuesday.
 
Local residents especially those supporting Moses Walyomu Muwanika, the NRM flag bearer, have painted Buwenge town council with their NRM t-shirts and placards.
 
Lorries and trucks blaring loud local music with others full of standing passengers were seen moving in a convoy as they escorted Walyomu for his nomination.
 
Hundreds of Bodaboda riders waving tree branches and dry banana leaves were also seen ahead of the candidate in Buwenge town council bringing business to a standstill for a while.

As Walyomu was heading for nominations, he was accompanied by NRM's deputy Secretary General Richard Todwong, Lydia Wanyoto, the Jinja district NRM chairperson Nathan Igeme Nabeta, former Kagoma County MP Frederick Mbagadhi Nkaayi and Sarah Doka the Presidential Advisor on Political Issues.
 
Walyomu was nominated by Jinja district returning officer Ambrose Mwaita at 1:00pm at Kagoma County headquarters in Jinja.
 
Immediatelty after nominations, Walyomu addressed a rally at Buwenge town council where he promised to the electorate to deliver with transparency.
 
"I request you people of Kagoma to elect me so that I can go back to Parliament and fulfill development programs that I left pending," Walyomu noted.
 
He promised to continue to lobby the NRM government to improve on roads, school and other government programs geared at enhancing people out of poverty.
 
Nathan Igeme Nabeta, the Jinja district NRM chairperson urged NRM party members to unite and elect NRM's party flag bearer.
 
Sarah Doka, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Issues called upon NRM members to show the picture of togetherness and elect Walyomu back to Parliament.
 
She cautioned NRM members against creating divisionism among themselves and told them to focus on the victory of the NRM party.
 
Godfrey Maate, the Kiira Region Police Commander who is yet to effect his transfer to Police headquarters cautioned candidates against over loading their supporters onto trucks during campaigns in order to avoid accidents.
 
Maate also urged candidates in the Kagoma race to conduct peaceful campaigns and also follow electoral commission rules and regulations during campaigns.
 
He warned them against campaigning after 6:00pm.
 
Meanwhile, FDC's Dr. Timothy Lusala Batuwa was also nominated today after presenting his papers to the electoral commission.
 
Others expected to be nominated today are independent Mohammed Bidondoli.
 
Tomorrow, Independent candidates Alex Brandon Kintu, Florence Namuganza and Frank Kamali will be nominated.
 
Elections are set for May 11. The seat fell vacant following a Court of Appeal ruling that nullified the election of Moses Walyomu on grounds of voter bribery.   -End-
