Seven arrested in Lira for illegal possession of ivory

Police in Lira on Friday night arrested seven people suspected to be poachers for being in possession of ivory.

The suspects were found with pieces of ivory weighing over 50 kilograms while attempting to get market .

Those arrested are Solomon Okello, Favio Ocen, Maxwell Omara, Dennis Epila, Susan Aber, David Omonya and Jasper Oweka, residents of Jinja Camp, a Lira suburb in Ojwina Division, Lira Municipality.

North Kiyoga police spokesperson,  David Ongom Mudong confirmed the arrested saying they are being held at Lira central police station.

Ongom however says suspects are charged with illegal possession of wildlife products adding that preliminary investigation shows that some of their accomplices are still at large.
