Vision Group gives sewing machines to Rubaga women

Vision Group through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) has handed over 10 sewing machines worth sh3.5m to a women's group in Lubya, a Kampala suburb.

Lynda Mabikke, Vision Group CSR coordinator said the initiative was aimed at rewarding women that have made a difference in their communities.

The sewing machines were handed over to the beneficiaries at a function on Friday.

The We can development group located in Lubya Parish, Rubaga division Kampala district beat 42 other groups in a women empowerment competition that was launched last month.

"We asked our clients to send us names of individuals and groups of women that have positively impacted on their societies," Mabikke noted, adding that that they received 42 entries but shortlisted five groups nationwide which they visited.

The final decision on who won was made by a panel of three judges, among them Rehema Nakachwa of Bukedde Fa ma. The radio station ran campaign.

She said that, We can development group surpassed all its contemporaries in record keeping, being focused and organized.

"Many groups had ghost members, no records and others were nonexistent," Nakachwa stated.

In her speech, Teddy Nalweyiso, the group chairperson, thanked the Vision Group family for the big heart and promised to take good care of the machines to continuously benefit the members.

She added that they are going to set up a vocational school that will impart skills in youths like tailoring, catering and crafts making among others.

"I started this group in 2014 with 10 members who have grown to 25. We make and sell beaded bags, bathing sponges, baskets, and mats among others," she explained.

The manager of Bukedde Fa ma, Herbert Yawe Kabanda appealed to the group to listen to Bukedde Fa Ma and all Vision Group platforms like New Vision because they have developmental programs.
