Serere launches war on army worm

Apr 20, 2017

Farmers are counting losses because of the invasion.

Serere district agricultural office has launched a fight against the crop-killing army worm.

The worm that has attacked many maize gardens in different parts of the district has led to farmers counting losses.

The fight against the army worm follows the delivery of 75 litres of Striker pesticides that the district has received from the government for demonstration.

Caroline Asekenye Ikodet, the District Agricultural Officer Serere, says they have launched this program in Serere town council following the invasion.

The pesticide that the district has received is mainly for demonstration purposes so that farmers can get to know the right way of fighting this worm.

Levi Otim, a farmer, thanked the government for atleast sending what the technical people can use for teaching them how to fight the worm that is seriously affecting their maize gardens.

However, Edward Onya Akonopesa the RDC Serere says this war on army worms is now calling on all the farmers  to go and attend the demonstration lessons at their sub-county headquarters so that they can get the recommended pesticides that they can use.
