Women perpetuating domestic violence against men were asked to treat their husbands with respect

Men in Teso have been urged to have courage and report cases of domestic violence against them.

The call was made by the chairperson Male Action Group in Katakwi Sub County, Fredrick Adulai Otim, following an increase of domestic violence against men.

Male Action Group is a section of men trained by Action Uganda Katakwi cluster to advocate for prevention of gender-based violence in society.

Otim said most men suffer domestic physical and emotional abuse at the hands of their partners or spouses but they don't report the matter to LC1s or Police in fear of being laughed at by fellow men.

He urged men who fall victim of domestic violence to come forward to register their cases without fear of being stigmatized.

However, he appealed to women perpetuating domestic violence against men to treat their husbands with respect.

Simon Ocom of Omodo trading centre, backed up the idea, claiming some women especially the working class don't respect their husbands.

He noted that such women have ignored their roles of attending to their husbands and children under the guise of being busy.

A section of men in Katakwi condemned civil society organisations for concentrating only on gender-based violence against women and ignoring men.

They challenged the civil society to focus on the elimination of domestic violence against both women and men.
