Some of the vegetables that farmers can plant are tomatoes, eggplant and cabbages

Agricultural experts from Otuboi Sub County in Kaberamaido district have put emphasis on farmers to plant fast maturing crops especially vegetables.

Julius Emwogu, the sub county agricultural officer, said planting vegetables is one of the profitable ways of earning money in farming because vegetables take only 2-3 months to be harvested.

"Famers should consider farming as a business by ensuring that anything they plant is sprayed rather than waiting for it to be attacked by disease" Emwogu stated.

Emwogu explained that majority of farmers have ignored planting vegetables forgetting that it is the only quickest way of earning in a farming business.

He said now that the rains have started pouring, there is need for famers to get interested in learning more ways of handling vegetables especially during the period of harvesting.

"It is always good for farmers to concentrate on both vegetables and crops such that in case of a loss in one field the other should be able to give hope to a farmer" Emwogu added.

He named some of the vegetables that farmers can plant as tomatoes, eggplant and cabbages among others.

He advised farmers to plant vegetables in fertile land for good yields.
